Sweet Graham Nativity Scene

Gingerbread houses are a great family activity during the Christmas season. This year, bring Christ into your tradition by creating a beautiful graham nativity scene instead.

Part of the fun in creating something as a family is the conversation. Making a beautiful Nativity scene allows for a lot of creativity and a lot of conversation. Your family can discuss the reason Jesus’ birth is important in each of your lives, the history of the nativity, how the animals were kept at the time, the travels of the wise men, and so much more.

Ideas for materials:

  • Graham crackers or gingerbread
  • Icing or caramel (for attaching)
  • Marshmallows
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Green Beans
  • Popcorn
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Nuts
  • Pretzels
  • Blueberries
  • Banana slices
  • Cucumber slices
  • Dried fruit
  • Dried coconut pieces
  • Cereal

Other items you will need:

  • Table covering (paper or plastic)
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Bowls

Instructions:

  1. Cover your table with paper or plastic.
  2. Gather your supplies.
  3. After you’ve gathered your supplies, lay them out in a way that is easy for your use (bowls, muffin tin, etc.).
  4. Melt your caramel or make your icing (whichever you have chosen) then pour into bowls. Use a popsicle stick to spread.
  5. Start creating your manger scene.
  6. Use the graham crackers and caramel to create the main structure.
  7. Decorate and add Mary and Joseph, Jesus, the wise men, animals, etc.

Making small changes in your Christmas routine and traditions can make Christ come alive in your lives throughout the season.
