Digital Magazine FAQ
Electronic versions of our favorite resources are instant and affordable. Below you will find answers to some of the most frequently asked “how to” questions regarding the interactive digital edition of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine.
General Questions
“How do I access the magazine?”
The current issue of the magazine automatically downloads each quarter within the app on your mobile device, or on your computer. To download the free app, go to HomeschoolApp.com. To see the most current issue on your computer, go to www.TOSMagazine.com.
“What operating system or program do I need to see the digital magazine?”
No special operating system or program is required to view the digital magazine via computer. A recent version of any popular web browser will provide adequate viewing capability for The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine.
“Will I be able to see the digital magazine if I have a slow dial-up connection?”
Yes; all you need is a recent version of any popular web browser. Though the digital edition is best suited for high-speed Internet connections, a 28 kbps connection will work. However page loads may take a couple of minutes or so.
“Why isn’t my magazine displaying correctly in my browser window?”
If your magazine is not displaying correctly, make sure you have the most updated version of your browser. You can find this version by going directly to the associated websites: http://www.firefox.com, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie, http://www.apple.com/safari, or http://www.google.com/chrome/.
If that does not work, try clearing your cache and history. Sometimes the computer does not completely load the web page, resulting in broken links and a magazine that does not display correctly.
“Do I have to be online to view the magazine?”
You do have the option to download the magazine onto your computer. It is a very large file, though, so you might want to test how it works on your computer. Visit www.TOSMagazine.com. Using the “Download” option in the navigation bar at the top, choose PDF format and then save the file to your computer. Be sure to remember where you save your digital edition.
If you don’t wish to save the magazine to a file, you may also download the magazine to your Android-based smartphone or Apple devices. Click here for more information. Once the app is downloaded, you can read the magazine on or offline.
“If I am using a laptop or computer to read my magazine, and I am short on storage space, do I need to download the issue to my computer/laptop, or do I keep the link handy and click on it each time I want to go back to that issue?”
We encourage you to view the magazine online if you are low on storage space, since it is a large file, although you may download the file easily from the “Download” button on the viewing page. You can download/save/print just one article or series of pages.
“What if I can’t access the magazine on the Internet?“
Always check your Internet connection. You may be having issues with your Internet provider. If you still cannot connect, call customer service at 1-888-718-HOME (4663) or email customerservice@theoldschoolhouse.com . If customer service is unable to solve the problem, due to the variables among browsers, computer operating systems, Internet connections, and settings, GTxcel, our digital publishing company, is best suited to answer your question. Please feel free to email GTxcel by going to the welcome page in your digital magazine and completing the form provided. If you cannot get to your welcome page, you can email support at support@gtxcel.com for personal assistance. GTxcel is happy to answer questions that pertain to accessing the issue, printing, navigation, downloading, archive access, and settings.
