What We Believe Series by Apologia

This Can’t Wait Until High School!

Three out of four young people walk away from the church after the age of 15, and many never return. Why? Despite years of Sunday school attendance, their Christian faith is shallow. They haven’t been taught to think about what they believe, and so their faith is easily shaken when challenged as teens and young adults.

Many parents choose to wait to discuss the deeper issues of faith until they think their kids are old enough to understand. But given these trends, we cannot wait until our children are in high school to take them beyond Bible stories and memory verses.

Discipling your children means teaching them to think through what they believe and why. It means helping them develop a personal relationship with the living God, not just follow a set of rules. By equipping our children with a biblical worldview when they’re young, we will set them on a rock that cannot be easily moved.

Does the idea of teaching a biblical worldview to a younger child sound a little scary? No worries! Not only is it possible for you to teach this subject, but Apologia’s award-winning What We Believe series makes it easy-and fun for the whole family! Readers of The Old Schoolhouse voted What We Believe the #1 Bible curriculum for homeschoolers!

These beautifully illustrated books introduce children, ages 6 to 14, to the basic truths of the Christian faith. Through memorable stories, fun activities, and thoughtful notebooking journals, your kids will come to know and trust our loving God, while building an unshakable, living faith to last a lifetime.

SchoolhouseTeachers.com–The Arts

SchoolhouseTeachers.comAre you looking for art resources available at your fingertips 24/7/365? Stop by SchoolhouseTeachers.com and explore the art classes we have for you.

If you have never been especially strong in art, you’ll love Brenda Ellis’ Art Techniques lessons on SchoolhouseTeachers.com. Brenda, the creator of the ARTistic Pursuits curriculum, brings monthly lessons that explore everything from chalk to watercolors, sketching large animals in charcoal to depicting your favorite pickup truck with oil pastels. Along the way, she encourages students to compare their work to their previous work, not the teacher’s, accenting their accomplishments without forcing them to compare their artwork to that of a seasoned professional.
If your teen has a passion for art and ministry, check out Sharon Jeffus’ Studio Art for Teens. By studying and imitating the masters, she’ll show students how to continually improve their artistic talents. Plus, she’ll share the work and stories of teen and young-adult artists who are using their artistic gifts to serve others.
Both classes are available all day, every day; there are no set times to log in. Every class is available to all SchoolhouseTeachers.com members no matter when you want to access the lesson. Plus, one membership serves your entire family, whether you are nurturing one budding artist or a dozen!

Red Wagon Tutorials/Cleo’s Classroom

Red Wagon TutorialsMy name is Steve Rosenoff. For the past twelve years, I have been teaching Apologia Science courses full-time for Red Wagon Tutorials.

We offer online recorded classes and live-feed course programs. Each class in the series is sixty to ninety minutes in length. I currently have presentations available for General Science, Physical Science, Biology, Marine Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Advanced Biology. We are offering two new non-Apologia course this fall: health and fitness and earth science. I am endorsed by Dr. Jay L. Wile and have his full support in this venture.

I also give away one free course to a missionary family working overseas for each one sold. RWT is currently serving missionaries in fifty-five countries with free recordings and curriculum support. We have 1500 students worldwide.

Our Golden Retriever, Cleo, is featured on every course page to welcome your student to study. The General Science page shows Cleo as a puppy and then she becomes increasing more mature on each subsequent course page: basically, she grows up with your student.

The online recorded sessions are of our live classes, which we still stream daily to those stateside and those serving overseas using GoToTraining technology.

Talking Fingers, Inc.

Talking Fingers--Talking Shapes

Preschoolers Discover That Letters Are Really “Talking Shapes” That Stand for Speech Sounds, in New Early Reading App from Talking Fingers Inc.

In the new iPad app, Talking Shapes, from educational publisher, Talking Fingers Inc., children discover that the words they say can be turned into words they see by building words with the letters they draw. Highly interactive stories and games let children record their own voices as they practice drawing letters, reading, spelling, phonemic awareness and phonics.

Noted neuropsychologist, Dr. Jeannine Herron, has applied the most recent research on how young brains learn, to create wonderfully interactive stories about how two sisters invented the alphabet “long, long ago”. Each letter is embedded in a picture that helps children remember both the sound and shape of the letter. Independent research has shown significant improvement in preschoolers’ skills after using Talking Shapes.

  • Children learn that spoken words are made of individual sounds (phoneme awareness).
  • Children learn that letters stand for those sounds (phonics).
  • Children learn how to draw letters.
  • Children learn how to sound out and write 3-letter words.

Only $5.99 for the first three of seven books available in Talking Shapes App, on iTunes. Books four through seven are in development.

Write from History

Write From History

A Time-Saving Curriculum:
The Write from History Series
If, like most homeschoolers, you struggle with “getting everything done,” the Write from History series will provide you with an easy method to teach writing and enhance your student’s history studies simultaneously.
This time-saving curriculum contains historical narratives, time period poetry, text excerpts from primary source documents, and cultural tales which students read and narrate. Models from the reading selections are then used as copywork; and, for older students, a separate set of models are studied and written from dictation.
With Write from History, students learn about history and simultaneously develop essential writing skills by absorbing the artistry and style of those they imitate. Included are authors such as:
  • King Solomon
  • Aristotle
  • Horace
  • Saint Augustine
  • William Shakespeare
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • Patrick Henry
  • Nathaniel Hawthorne
  • Hans Christian Andersen
  • Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
  •  Emily Dickinson
  • and many others . . .
The level 1 books are designed for students in grades 1 to 3, and the level 2 books are designed for students in grades 3 to 5.
