The Goodness of Dates in a Loaf

 

Dates are very nutritious and have a lot of health benefits. They are very high in fiber, fight diseases, improve heart health, act as a natural sweetener, and the list goes on.

But to look at a date, you and your children may not find them very appetizing. That is why we need to make yummy food like this Date Loaf to get all the benefits with a look and taste that will appeal to even those picky eaters.

There's lots to learn about dates, like where they come from, how they grow and the process of harvesting. Whether you get your kids to help with the baking or just help with eating, it's the perfect time to discuss some of the reasons to include dates in our diet.


The Goodness of Dates in a Loaf

Cook Time 50 minutes

Ingredients
  

Loaf

  • 1 cup dates
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1-1/2 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, bring dates and water to a boil.
  • Stir in the butter and sugar until melted.
  • Remove from heat and stir in baking soda.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes.
  • Place the date mixture in large bowl and blend in flour, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Pour batter in a prepared pan (sprayed with cooking spray).
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes.
  • Insert toothpick, and if it comes out clean then it is done.
  • Put the loaf aside and boil all the ingredients together to make the sauce.
  • When it gets to the texture that you want, about 5 minutes, remove from stove.
  • Pour over the loaf.
  • Cut a slice and enjoy!
