The Goodness of Dates in a Loaf
- 1 cup dates
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1-1/2 cup flour
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup cream
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a saucepan over medium heat, bring dates and water to a boil.
Stir in the butter and sugar until melted.
Remove from heat and stir in baking soda.
Let cool for 10 minutes.
Place the date mixture in large bowl and blend in flour, eggs, and vanilla.
Pour batter in a prepared pan (sprayed with cooking spray).
Bake for 50-60 minutes.
Insert toothpick, and if it comes out clean then it is done.
Put the loaf aside and boil all the ingredients together to make the sauce.
When it gets to the texture that you want, about 5 minutes, remove from stove.
Pour over the loaf.
Cut a slice and enjoy!
