Joovy Balloon Review by Adrienne Falkena

The Joovy Balloon is a lightweight stroller available in blue, green, yellow, black, red, and pink. Weighing just over twelve pounds, it includes universal infant seat adapters to attach an infant car seat, and two cup holders that attach to either side of the handle. It boasts a swivel handle that rotates in seconds to allow for baby to face either forward or backwards and a sunshade canopy with UPF 50 protection. The Joovy Balloon retails for $199.99.

The seat reclines to a bassinet for the smallest of infants or sits up to carry a toddler weighing up to 45 pounds. The single handed unfolding is quick and easy, and folding it back up is just as simple. It latches itself when folded and stands up quite compactly in its folded position.

The Joovy Balloon serves very well. I received it when my son was mere days old, and after spending just a couple of minutes sliding it out of the box and snapping the wheels on, it was ready. My newborn was able to sit comfortably with its reclined almost-flat position, and I really appreciated the ability to have him facing me. The seat cushion is the nicest I've ever seen on a stroller, but the canopy is by far my favorite feature of the Balloon. It closes all the way down to completely cover baby from head to toes. With the spring sun a threat to my newborn's skin, the canopy is a fabulous feature that allows me to be on the go without worry. I am able to switch from pushing my newborn to pushing my two year old without issue, by a simple adjustment of the seat. The basket under the stroller is large, deep, and easy to access—a major bonus in the world of carting around the things of children!

My complaints are few. The Balloon has one set of fixed wheels and one set of swivel wheels, so when baby faces me, maneuvering can be difficult and turns must be wide, since that puts the swivel wheels closest to me. I wish it had four swivel wheels that could be locked. Also, the five point harness straps are hard to adjust down quickly, and, since I have used it for both my newborn and my toddler, I've finally just left them at a larger size.

Overall, I have thoroughly appreciated the Joovy Balloon. It's extremely versatile and serves me well with both my infant and my toddler. It's so incredibly light, the stroller pushes almost effortlessly and is easy to lift in and out of my vehicle. I've been impressed with how well the fabric of the seat and the canopy has held up, and the vivid color provides a crisp, clean, impressive look. I'd recommend the Joovy Balloon if you're looking for a stroller to use from birth to about age four, when children will eventually reach the weight limit. For the price, it doesn't have lots of bells and whistles, but you couldn't and still maintain such a lightweight stroller. It serves well though, and offers just enough to be everything you'd need for a walking stroller.
