The Orange Shoes is a beautifully illustrated, hardback children's storybook by one of my favorite publishers, Sleeping Bear Press. Author Trinka Hakes Noble tells a tale of a young girl growing up during the Depression years. Delly Porter is poor, and her family can barely afford to put food on the table, let alone buy Delly the shoes she needs. Delly learns some very important lessons throughout the pages of this book--lessons about sacrifice, love, prejudice, cruelty, and being true to oneself.
True to the reputation that Sleeping Bear Press has established for itself, this book is a keeper! It tells a timeless tale that your family will enjoy reading over and over again for years to come. It is the type of book that you will want to save and share with future generations. In the words of my seven-year-old daughter, "This story gets sadder and sadder. Then it has a really happy ending."
This book is priced very comparably to other books of its kind. It is well worth the cover price. I would highly recommend The Orange Shoes and any other Sleeping Bear Press titles. You children will thank you!
