New Homeschooling Parents Seek Summer School Options

The Old Schoolhouse® offers a large selection of self-paced courses.

GRAY, Tenn. - April 19, 2022 - PRLog -- As restrictions lift in many states, parents can now provide a plethora of options for their children this summer, but there’s a catch. Traditional camps, recreational activities, and sports may be opening up, but with the rise in gas prices and inflation, families are rethinking traveling too far from home. Many new homeschooling parents are concerned that their children will need to play catch-up come fall as they are not confident that their previous school system made the grade the past two years. As they begin to navigate homeschooling, many lean toward schooling throughout the summer.

The concept is not new. “Many homeschooling families school year-round,” shares Gena Suarez,  publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. “They have for years. It frees families up to pursue their interests, take breaks when it works for their schedule rather than the school system’s, and lends to a well-rounded approach to education in general.”

Last spring, EducationWeek published an online article, “Tens of Thousands May Have to Repeat a Grade” (May 24, 2021). The author stated that parents were torn. Some did not want their children to have to repeat, while others thought they needed remedial help to bridge the educational gap. Parents on both sides of the fence who have chosen to home educate are still trying to find their bearings.

Homeschool resource platforms such as have opened their doors wide for these families. With over 400 courses added to the platform over the past decade, parents seeking summer school courses may use all the courses they need with a single membership. If a parent is concerned about her daughter’s math, she can use the Multiplication and Division Practice Unit. After twenty-four lessons, her daughter will not only have had the chance to master these facts but will receive a certificate of completion, giving her the confidence to enter the fall with her newfound knowledge and sense of accomplishment. Two discount codes have just opened up this spring at, giving parents the option to use as many courses as needed under one membership.
