http://www.readnaturally.com/Does your child struggle with reading fluently? Does he halt and struggle? Is reading a laborious chore for him? This may be your answer. This program is unique in that it combines three research-proven strategies that help to develop your child's confidence in his or her own ability to read smoothly. Your child will read along with a story while listening to a well-enunciated tape that is practiced over and over until the child reaches the pre-determined reading rate goal. Students graph the number of words read correctly before practicing and then again after practicing. This helps them to see their progress and proves to them (and you) that they can really do it. Read Naturally has Sequenced Reading Levels that starts with basic reading (Level 1). In the beginning, these stories have roughly 15 sentences, like "Bears are big animals." At the top of the page are definitions of more difficult vocabulary words in the story and following are comprehension questions in each level that help to reinforce learning. The levels go all the way up to 7.0 with stories like China's Ancient Buried Army that begins with this sentence: "In 1974, some Chinese farmers were digging a well for their commune outside the city of Xian" and goes on to tell a full page story about the discovery. Their choices for stories are varied and interesting. You determine the initial goal and level of your child's learning with their easy-to-use Placement Packet or can go to their website to see the level sample stories. Each level includes 12 tapes that have 24 interesting, non-fiction stories, along with a black line master with those same stories printed for your child's use. Also included is the teacher's manual. The Old Schoolhouseâ„¢ recommends this product to those of you who have children who love to listen to reading, but struggle with it on their own.
