In Hitting Glory, Lou Gibson, an eleven-year-old boy finds an old wooden bat in his school's basement. Lou begins to wonder if this bat could have belonged to Lou Gehrig, the most famous graduate of Public School #132. He sets off on a mission to prove his hunch. Along the way, he learns about obedience and forgiveness.

Safe at Home is about Trevor Mitchell, an eleven-year-old boy whose great-grandfather gives him a mint-condition 1915 Babe Ruth baseball card. After he discovers the card is worth $50,000 and the newspaper interviews his great-grandfather about stealing home from Babe Ruth, the card disappears. Trevor has to deal with skepticism about his beloved great-grandfather and learn how to forgive in his search to find the missing card.

Hitting Glory and Safe at Home are wonderful books to encourage your boys to read. Although the main characters attend public schools, the lessons they learn in these books are applicable to all children. Both Lou and Trevor disobey their parents and suffer the consequences of their actions as well as learn how to forgive.

These books would make a great addition to any homeschool library!
