Graphic Organizers Review by Patti Pierce

When it comes to homeschooling, I often want something more than just textbooks and questions for our children’s education. Two of our four children are still being homeschooled, but they are in high school. So, I often look for alternative means for my children to convey what they are learning about a subject. Graphic Organizers from Sunflower Education does an excellent job of providing structured guidance for our children while allowing them to interact with their material in a way that is meaningful to them.

For this review, we received soft covered books for Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Math. Each book ranges from forty-nine to sixty-one graphic organizers a piece.

In addition to the actual graphic organizers, there are teaching notes in each book as well. The graphic organizers are blackline masters that users can reproduce. Each family can decide the level of completion for each child to strive for based on their abilities.

The Language Arts workbook includes pages for vocabulary, literature, setting, plot, grammar, composition, mechanics, and more. This workbook has sixty-one different graphic organizers to choose from.

The Social Studies book contains fifty-eight graphic organizers. It includes organizers for culture, history, geography, psychology, sociology, political science and more.

The Science workbook includes fifty-three graphic organizers. The organizers range in topics from Scientific Inquiry, Physical Science, Life Science, Earth and Space Science, Science and Technology, History and Nature of Science and more.

The Math workbook has organizers for Number and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Data Analysis and Probability, Reasoning and Proof, Communication, Connections, Representations, and more.

These workbooks are perfect for families who want something other than simply reading and filling in the blanks. Families who want activities that will work with any curriculum will benefit from these workbooks. The open-ended nature of these activities provides the opportunity for families to use these organizers as a springboard for additional research or writing activities. Our family used these organizers as a way of beginning a topic such as looking at the nature of Science. I picked out organizers based on what our teenage daughter was currently working on in her various subjects.

I love the freedom and flexibility these organizers provide. Whether you use a textbook, use living books, or use some other means of homeschooling, these organizers will be a perfect fit for your family.

I highly recommend these organizer workbooks for families that want to add some variety to their homeschooling life.
