Finally there's a secular company who understands that good Literature materials must NOT be void of all morality! Mosdos Press has released just such curriculum.

This beautifully illustrated and well-written curriculum was a joy to peruse. I looked through a volume for Middle School and found beautiful lessons about Poetry, Courage, New Frontiers (pioneers, the Wright Brothers), Defining Character, Fables/Legends/Folklore, Understanding Theme. Background information is given for much of the material, especially when beginning a new unit. Chapters end with "Studying the Selection." This is where your child's juices get flowing with First Impressions, Quick Review, Focus, Creating and Writing. Much is involved in this, everything from drama, memory work, art and nature studies to interviews and actual community service. You and your child can become as involved as you wish.

Something else to seriously consider along with the lesson book is the workbook. This completes the student set. For each lesson from the textbook, the workbook contains corresponding vocabulary, graphic organizers, creative writing and comprehension questions. This keeps the student on task and helps the parent/teacher evaluate which areas your student may need to do more work.

The 2-part, spiral bound teacher's Edition contains anything and everything you would need for leading your child through this volume. Very well thought out and not a bit intimidating. It's fully annotated and makes life a lot easier even for the very new homeschool mom. The teacher's edition takes your hand and leads you through such things as teaching literature, writing and poetry. Clear, concise explanations.

Many of us know of parents who aren't Christians but who are thinking about homeschooling; they might want to encourage their children's moral values but are uncomfortable with Christian curriculum. This would be something that they would benefit from. As homeschooling becomes more "mainstream," this is a curriculum I would have no problem recommending.
