Warts and All is a children’s picture book by Lori Haskins Houran, published by Albert Whitman & Company. It is a hardback book of 26 pages, with large, full color illustrations.  The purchase price is $15.99. The website lists this book in its 4-8 year old section, and I found this evaluation appropriate in my family.  My four, six, and eight-yearolds loved it, and had several comments about it.  My 10-year-old just thought it was “cute”.

This was such a sweet book! The tone is one of an adult speaking to a child about how they will be loved even if they are prickly, grumpy or smelly. Each page has a different baby animal depicting the emotion spoken of. My favorite illustration was the hippopotamus!

I also liked that there are few words on each page, and the print is large. This format appeals to new readers. My eight-year-old wanted to keep the book on her shelf, so she could read it by herself later.

I think this book will make my ‘good books to give children’ list. There is a sequel to the book, called Next to You, by the same author that I’d like to have as well. You can’t go wrong with cuteness overload!
