These particular proverbs were chosen by hundreds of women as their favorite verses, and each one reveals truth and wisdom.

Liz Curtis Higgs examines the proverbs word by word, quoting several translations and paraphrases to get at the many layers of meaning. She tells her own honest stories of struggles and victories in trusting God’s promises and wisdom. Her sense of humor shines through many of the stories and examples she shares, and makes it easy to apply the truths in Scripture to everyday living.

Each verse is studied and discussed, and is followed by a brief suggested prayer and a “One Minute, One Step” challenge. These challenges are meant to be done immediately and are simple tasks that don’t require much time or preparation. The point is to take action right away in applying God’s Word in your life. A study guide is also included so this devotional could easily be used in a small group Bible study setting, or even for a mother-daughter study.

The combination of personal anecdotes from the author, deep Biblical teaching, and practical suggestions to apply the Word right away, provides a simple but meaningful challenge to believers to truly live out what they believe. This devotional book packs a lot of encouragement and wisdom into each of these brief chapters.

I used this as a personal devotion book, and appreciated the very practical and personal applications to my everyday life. The readings are short enough that I could spend just a few extra minutes during my morning to reflect on valuable truth from Scripture, and then put the insights to work right away. This book is a welcome addition to my personal library, as I think it can be read over and over with new insight and application each time. I will plan to use some of the chapters as devotional thoughts in meetings with moms, and I think it would also make a lovely study for a small group of women.
