We have been actively looking for a Bible curriculum that would fit our family. My goal was to find a curriculum that I could use with both of my boys, and I have to say that we found that with “What Does the Bible Say About That?”  We have been using this curriculum for a while now and both of my boys look forward to our daily study.

“What Does the Bible Say About that?” is a Biblical worldview curriculum that was written by Kevin Swanson.  Kevin is not only a homeschool father, but he’s also a pastor, author and radio host, and has done an amazing job with this curriculum. This curriculum is recommended for ages nine-years of age and up, but I have been successfully using this curriculum with both my six and nine-year olds.

This curriculum is made of up ten chapters. At the end of each chapter, you’ll find a chapter review that includes a scripture memory verse and scripture reading. You’ll also find at the end of each chapter review questions, vocabulary and an activity (word search, cross word puzzles, etc.) With this curriculum you won’t need to purchase any additional learning material. Everything that you need is included in your book, but we do choose to always set down with a Bible in case we want to look up biblical references that may not have been covered within the text.

While a child could certainly work through these lessons independently, we chose to do these as a family. That way we were able to read and discuss them together. The language was very easy to understand and I feel that both of my boys have learned a lot since we have started this curriculum. While one lesson could certainly be done in one day, we actually spent a week on each lesson. This assured me that they fully understood what we were learning.

All in all this is a wonderful curriculum and one that I would recommend to anyone looking for Bible study for ages 9+.

Another Reviewer’s Perspective:

What Does the Bible Say About That?
A Biblical Worldview Curriculum for Children

My oldest son has a great love for the Word of God. As he gets older, I encourage him to find the truth within the Word, for himself.  It is so important for our children to know what it says for themselves and then to be able to defend their faith when under attack. The Word of God is so powerful, it is so precious. Yet without seeing it for ourselves, in our life and world, it is hard to really share it. Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity to review What Does the Bible Say About That? A Biblical Worldview Curriculum for Children, by Kevin Swanson.  This is recommended for ages 9+. I used this with my 11 and 7 year old sons and they both enjoyed this so much!

There are ten lessons within this book; these include verses for memorization, text, puzzles, vocabulary and lots of other fun activities. At the end of each chapter there is a review which encourages our children to think about what they learned. They are encouraged to define things themselves; answer questions like who and what is God? How is worldview defined? Who are we told to love? These are great questions to help us not just learn the Word of God but also live it out.

From helping our children to understand the roles of family, government, and even you, in God’s plan this covers so much more than I imagined! It is reiterated again and again that “The question, “Does God exist?” affects everything in your life and everything in everybody else’s life.” This only confirms that there is a great need for action in our lives; truly believing something means that we change.  Others see a difference our actions, and reactions.

One especially fun (favorite!) activity in this book was an exercise in oneness. With only two pieces of cardboard and some wood glue our children see how important this is and what a mess can be made when something that is meant to be one gets taken apart.

I think of how my son, last fall, went in front of a large group of judges and just spoke about the love of God. He didn’t have anything prepared (he was supposed to speak on the benefits of hockey) but he felt the Spirit leading him that day. And so he went before a crowd of people and told them all about the Word of God and how the Word as it is written, is alive and true and powerful.

Our kids need to have these kinds of experiences for themselves. We cannot simply know what it says; we must also know what it means. We must be able to show what it looks like, today, in my life and your life.

This book is a wonderful way to introduce children to apologetics; giving them the tools they will need to stand on the Word of God and be able to give an answer to every man that asks about the hope within us.
