Heirloom Audio Productions has released another audio theater CD in its series based on the classic works of G.A. Henty. This latest production, The Cat of Bubastes, is set in ancient Egypt and portrays the coming of age tale of two young men from very different backgrounds, whose lives become intertwined through historical events beyond their control.

Prince Amuba and his companion Jethro are forced into servitude when their country is conquered by the armies of Egypt, a world power at that time. Amuba has little time to mourn his father who was mercilessly killed, or the throne he would no longer inherit. Instead he must adapt to his new life as the slave to an Egyptian priest, and learn the ways of his new country to survive. As he would learn, the hand of the Lord was providentially providing for him in many ways, allowing him to grow into manhood alongside his companion Chebron, the son of his master, the priest.

Through a series of somewhat harrowing events, the boys are forced to escape Egypt and return to Amuba’s homeland, after an unfortunate accident that destroyed the sacred cat of Bubastes. Though this accident was tragic, it exposes a devout faith in the true God, for which Amuba and Chebron learn to rest and rejoice in.

This unique CD from Heirloom Audio Productions brings Henty’s classic story to life in the most captivating way. Though Henty’s book is a valuable educational tool on its own, combining it with a star-studded cast, realistic sound effects, and a fantastic musical sound track make the two hours of listening time a truly extraordinary experience. The character building lessons written long ago become relatable to the listener as they are drawn into the story.

Not only can the listener draw from the positive character building lessons, but the numerous details given provide a substantial education of the Egyptian culture of this era.

No stranger to Heirloom Audio Productions, we eagerly anticipated this latest story, and were not disappointed. Not only did we find the story interesting, it was also enjoyable to listen to and discuss as a family. It was amazing to learn several new facts about Egyptian culture at the time of the Israelite captivity, that made us see the people of that era in a new light. I highly recommend The Cat of Bubastes to be a part of any ancient history studies. It is currently available from the Heirloom Audio Productions website as an electronic download for $19.97 or the CD set can be purchased for $29.97.
