What can you believe in the news these days? Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish truth from fiction, especially when the topic is one as controversial as ecology and environmentalism.

That’s why I was thrilled to see Master Books’ newest addition to their Wonders of Creation series. The Ecology Book is a hardcover, nearly 100-page book that skillfully handles these topics from a Biblical perspective. Science is in harmony with the Bible! And this book gives great support to that truth – from fungus and bacteria to hunting and the ecosystem, the authors explain it all in an interesting, approachable manner.

With my big family, I am grateful for materials that are easily integrated into a multi-age setting. The Ecology Book handles this very creatively – text with an off-white background is for level one, green and blue backgrounds are for levels two and three respectively. This allows the book to be utilized for grades five to eleven without the frustration of switching between different books.

One of my favorite features is "The Big Five." Specific who, what, where, why, and how questions are addressed on each page. All five questions are answered for each grade level.

Extreme environmentalism isn’t the answer for Christians. The Ecology Book clearly lays out the evidence for practicing good stewardship, while also following God’s command to have dominion. It also gives clear evidence of God’s design throughout nature.

In addition to exploring the subject of ecology from a biological viewpoint, it also gives suggestions for incorporating these facts into family devotions. Another great feature is the appendices. One that was particularly helpful addressed the best ways to do science experiments. I think this is the clearest explanation I’ve ever read and will be immensely helpful for my children to use their own creativity in experimenting, while still be accurate as much as possible.

Books are a dime a dozen and new books frequently arrive at our house. Knowing that there are plenty of things out there that are inappropriate for children, I always read through each one before my book-loving kids do. But when something comes to our door from Master Books, it’s reassuring to know that I can hand the books over without a worry. Trustworthy sources are hard to find, but this is a publisher worth trusting. The Ecology Book (hardcover, $16.99, www.masterbooks.net) will be a great addition to your family library that supports the truths of God’s Word.
