Where in the Wild? and Where Else in the Wild? are two fun books full of "ear-tickling poems" by David M. Schwartz and Yael Schy and "eye-tricking photos" by Dwight Kuhn. In the first book, ten camouflaged creatures hide in a beautiful photograph for your child to spot: coyote, gray tree frog, fawns, weasel, moth, killdeer eggs, crab spider, flounder, green snake, and red-spotted newt. Each page folds out to reveal the whereabouts of the hidden creature along with scientific information about it. This book has won multiple awards. It was the 2008 recipient of the American Association for the Advancement of Science/Subaru Science Book and Films Prize for Excellence in Science Books. It was also named a 2008 Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students K-12 by the National Science Teachers Association and the Children's Book Council and was listed as a 2007 Editor's Choice in Booklist magazine.

The second book follows up on the success of the first with eleven more camouflaged animals to find and read about: inchworm, orchid mantis, snowshoe hare, spring peeper, crayfish, black-capped chickadee, lined leaf-tailed gecko, leaf insect, white footed mouse, scorpion fish, and ambush bug.

These are beautiful books. The photos are vibrant and clear, and the poems are creative and fun to read. There are poems that rhyme, haikus, and shaped poems. The poem about the crab spider is written in such a way as to look like eight spidery legs, and the ambush bug poem actually ambushes and devours itself! These books offer a lot of bang for your buck. Non-readers will enjoy searching through the stunning photographs to find the camouflaged creatures, the young naturalist will enjoy learning more about each creature under each flap, and children that are more literary will like the poems.
