If you are looking for something to spruce up your study of Old Testament History, then this Activity Pak from Home School in the Woods might be the answer for you. This CD has activities and directions for your student to make a lap book. Lap books are a creative way to record what your child learns in an attractive presentation, using art, research, and creative writing.

Included in the CD are 15 activities based on different events in the Old Testament. A few of the ones studied are the descendants of Adam, Abraham and Isaac, and the Major and Minor Prophets. When completed, these can be put together into a lap book. The section that has instructions for each project provides a supply list, illustrations, and step-by-step directions. For each activity there is a corresponding section of printable templates to use. Another section describes how to assemble the entire lap book and includes a photo gallery to show the many different possibilities when putting it together.

Besides the lap book activities, there are two additional activities on the CD. The first is a section of different verses from Proverbs that can be used for copywork or handwriting practice and then illustrated. This is very useful for teaching simple truths to your child. The second is a newspaper project in which your child pretends to be a reporter and uses creative writing to learn more about Old Testament figures. There are 19 article suggestions as well as templates to use and illustrate. This easy-to-use CD is compatible with either Windows or Macintosh and does need Acrobat Reader.

I found this resource to be a good addition to our study of Bible history. It was detailed and brought out many aspects of God's character and providence. There is some prep work involved, as each of the templates needs to be printed out for your child. This product would be especially useful for the child who enjoys hands-on learning. And even if you take a more textbook approach to your schooling, the activities included can help to fill in the gaps. This lap book can be adapted to a broad range of different ages and can easily be changed to fit your homeschooling needs.
