This simple, easy-to-read book is a good way to get little ones to see God's wonderful creation in the world around them. The book describes what a little girl can see, hear, smell, and touch as she explores her backyard. On most of the pages, there is a list of things that your child can look for outside--a cricket, a bumblebee, different flowers, and a butterfly to name a few. Also included are simple diagrams to explain the life cycle of a monarch butterfly, the stages of a frog's life, and how a dragonfly is born.

At the end of the book there are some tips for parents. The tips for nature discovery give some great pointers for exploration. Using all the senses, putting out animal feeders, and going on a nature discovery hunt are just a few of the ideas listed and described. On the nature notes pages, the different animals and ecosystems listed in the book are described in further detail. This is a great tool for parents to use with their children, and it also encourages further research.

Children ages 3-7 will enjoy the simple language and colorful pages. My younger children enjoyed looking at the pictures and then trying to find some of different insects in our own backyard. For those who do not have a science program or need a supplement to their curriculum, this book is an excellent choice.
