Useful for a classroom setting or in one's home school, Evan-Moor Science Center books are a wonderful resource for anyone wanting to spice up her classroom. This text allows the teacher to create 14 self-contained, portable file folder centers in which students may practice skills previously taught by the teacher. Everything needed to fill the file folders is included--a teacher direction page describing the student's task, full colored materials needed for the center, and reproducible answer forms. Students choose a folder and study and practice the topics within--easy and fun.

Students will: practice making science analogies, work with terms relating to outer space, study the phases of the moon, determine if animals are vertebrates or invertebrates, work with classifying animals, study plant parts, study life cycles of plants, frogs, and insects, work with animal adaptation, practice working with simple machines, study the major human body systems, work with terminology relating to the earth's layers, work with sunlight and night light, differentiate between solids, liquids, and gas, and work with food webs.

The majority of the effort involved in putting these centers together is simply cutting and gluing (which is minimal). The brightly colored sheets are simple and easily used by younger students. If not using the entire book, individual units could be used to supplement your current science curriculum. Most home school teachers long to make their home schools more interesting to their children, and yet most mothers also lack the time and energy needed to do so on a regular basis. Evan-Moor's Centers are a wonderful means to bring fun into the classroom with minimal effort for the teacher.
