Do you like this chocolate treat? The Tootsie Roll candy was introduced on this date in 1896. Many people enjoy the sweet taste of chocolate. God wants our words to be "sweet". Read Proverbs 16:24 to find out how your words can be like Tootsie Rolls to the soul.

Questions to Discuss: How do you feel when someone speaks to you in an unkind way? How do you feel when someone speaks to you in a kind way? What kind words have you spoken to someone today?

Related Activity: Snack on a Tootsie Roll. How does it taste? After you have enjoyed the sweet candy, take the time to share pleasant words to each member of your family.

Curriculum Connection: Use a thesaurus to find other words that mean the same as pleasant.

Verse to Memorize: Psalm 19:14 "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer."

Prayer Suggestion: Ask God to help you speak only pleasant and kind words to others.

National Picnic Month

Think back to your last picnic. How many people attended the picnic? Have you ever been to a picnic with over four thousand people in attendance? What if you were the one in charge of feeding that many people? Read about the miraculous way that Jesus feeds the multitude in Matthew 15:29-39.

Questions to Discuss: Compare and contrast the feeding of five thousand (Matthew 14:13-21) and this passage.

Related Activity: Pack a picnic for your family--and take off.

Curriculum Connection: Talk about place value. Can you recognize numbers with digits in the million's place?

Verse to Memorize Psalm 77:11-12--"I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds."

Prayer Suggestion: Pray for those who have never heard the words of Jesus.
