Implications of Literature Navigator Level is a challenging tenth grade Literature/Language Arts program. There are six units within the textbook which include:

  • Navigating The World of the Short Story
  • Exploring the Realm of Poetry
  • Sailing the Seas of Biography
  • Charting the Course of Nonfiction
  • Discovering the Kingdom of the Novel
  • Mapping the Road to Language Skills

Within each section, you'll find over 50 works of literature from familiar names such as Charles Dickens, Count Leo Tolstoy, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Each unit begins with a "Before you Read" section which gives information about the selection and its author. They also contain several exercises including a CheckQuiz, Helpful Definitions, a Literary Critique, and Workshops for writing, journaling, and vocabulary. We particularly enjoyed the novel study for A Tale of Two Cities. It includes not only an in depth look at author Charles Dickens and his work, but also historical and political perspectives on the French Revolution.

The student handbook in the back of the book is especially helpful and completes this course.

The annotated teacher edition is a wonderful resource, complete with inset student pages, and all answers from the student text. These are large, hardbound books with nearly 900 pages of literary works. The test bank CD-ROM is very well done and includes an audio introduction with instructions for use. There are four separate tests to choose from for each selection in the book and they are easily accessed by either the author's last name or the selection being studied. I loved the format of the Test Bank CD- ROM, right down to the lovely classical music that plays. The only negative element to me is the price. It retails at $119.00. With the student text being $50.00, and the Teacher Edition $75.00, this is a rather large investment for all. You may download the Table of Contents, as well as samples of poetry, biography, a nonfiction selection and samples from the Test Bank CD from the website. This curriculum is very thorough. In my opinion, would work well with those who homeschool using a traditional textbook approach, and those who have advanced students who enjoy rigorous literature studies.
