1-2-3 Cartoon Cars: A Step-by-Step Guide Review by Carissa Ruiz

This is a "how-to" drawing book for beginners. It gives step-by-step instructions on how to draw cartoon cars.

Steve Barr, the author, briefly explains the advantage of this simple type of drawing: "there are no rules" with cartoons. After a brief introduction, the rest of the book has different pictures to draw with step-by-step instructions and some drawing tips.

Pros:
• Very simple, very basic • Not intimidating at all • Pictures are appropriate and non-offensive.

Cons:
• None at this time

When I first chose this book from a list, I didn't expect cartoons. I expected basic drawings that were not extremely detailed. But once I realized that it was cartoons, I warmed up to it. After I read it, I handed it to my kids.

Over the years, I have bought my share of drawing books and borrowed many from the library. Generally, my kids were not too interested. They would open the books up briefly and then close them. It was completely different with this book and the other books of this series. They sat for hours and hours, drawing hilarious adventure scenes.

If you have children who do not gravitate to art, this may be your solution. If you have a child who likes to doodle, this book may provide good direction. I really enjoyed watching my kids enjoy this book and the others in this series.
