Teaching History Beyond the Text Review by Heidi Strawser

Carol Henderson
A Book in Time
http://www.abookintime.com/

I love history! I always have. But what they teach you in school, out of a textbook, is usually rather dull and boring. It wasn't until I started homeschooling my own children, that I realized how much history will come to life by adding things to our learning such as timelines, maps, activities beyond the textbook, and lots of crafts. If you are stuck in a "history rut" or maybe you have never appreciated history, then this book is a wonderful place for you to get started learning how to appreciate history and actually enjoy it.

In this book, you will learn how to set history goals (both long and short-term), how to select a textbook that is appropriate for multi-level learning, and how to plan out a full year's worth of learning. You will learn how to create and maintain a timeline, how to add geography to your study with the use of maps, and how to incorporate crafting and notebooking into your studies. Detailed instructions are given, as well as weblinks to resources where you can easily find exactly what you need.

Several charts are also provided that you may reproduce as needed (including various planners and timeline cover sheets). Everything you need to make history fun is right here in 82 pages, in an easy-to understand, well-laid-out format.
