Siente: Night Songs from Around the World is a CD of 13 international lullabies "for grownups (and their kids)." There are Spanish, Gaelic, Russian, Indonesian, Italian, Czech, Belgian, Brazilian, and Mexican songs sung in their native languages and in English. Lyrics in both languages are included on the CD insert.
Vocalist Patrice O'Neill has a lovely, clear voice. She is accompanied by classical guitarist Hillary Field and an assortment of other musicians.
The music is sweet and calming, and the songs link you with mothers around the world in the universal effort of trying to get their young children to fall asleep. Siente would make a unique gift for new parents. I imagine it would be perfect for rocking a young child to sleep or nursing a baby during the night.
I find it interesting that Siente is billed first as a lullaby CD for grownups. As we parents get older and sometimes find sleep elusive with our minds full of thoughts--and oftentimes worries--maybe we do need lullabies! I certainly felt my blood pressure lower and my pulse slow down as I listened to the soft melodies.
