How To Write Simple Science Reports, Grades 1-4 Review by Diane Wheeler

We love studying nature in our family. There is an assortment of containers in our front yard that are part of our Third Annual Science Exhibit. We have tadpoles of many sizes and probably a few mosquitoes in various stages of development as well. Evan-Moor's books came on day one of our exhibit and the timing could not have been more perfect.

How To Write Simple Science Reports was the first book I saw as I opened my box. On the cover is a report entitled "From Tadpole To Frog" so I had to wonder if they had seen my front yard! Each topic includes reproducible cover pages in the shape of the creature or habitat being studied, discussion questions, writing ideas, suggestions for further reading and basic facts about the animal. This could easily be the starting point for a yearlong study of animals or a way to add fun ideas to your curriculum. The areas covered are wild animals, animal homes and prehistoric animals for a total of 30 topics. This book is written for grades 1-4, but my fifth and sixth grade students are enjoying it as well. The section on prehistoric animals includes book recommendations and comments that come from an evolutionary perspective. However, I highly recommend this resource and suggest you take what fits your family beliefs and leave the rest.
