The Great Turning Point by Terry Mortenson is an interesting book. I usually do not get hooked on books about geology at all. This book has really helped me to understand a lot that I did not before. It is broke down into sections that make it easier to follow. The Introduction explains why it is important to reexamine the men in the book where several reasons are given including merely wanting to satisfy our historical curiosity.

Explanation of how the book is organized concludes the introduction section. The Historical section follows with discussion on the intellectual and religious background, the history of geology leading up to the early 19th century, the culture environment at the time, and the marks of geological ability in the early 1800's.

The Seven Individual Portraits was my favorite section. In this section seven different scriptural geologists are portrayed. They are in chronological order of their writings in geology. After learning about the seven scriptural geologists the next section compares their similarities and differences. Six other scriptural geologists are brought into this section for accuracy of generalization. I learned so much from this book myself that I am going to have my high school-aged daughters study this book next year. I would recommend this to any adults or older students who want learn more about the true history of science.
