Amanda Bennett's Baseball Unit Study is a lot of fun! A four-week study on CD-Rom, it guides your students in learning all about the game, its history, its players, and much more. With lessons for lower (elementary) and upper (junior and senior high), it is perfect for multi-level teaching.

Each day, the study provides a baseball-related quote to learn or for copywork, as well as spelling/vocabulary words. I love the research component to this study as we daily look for information to learn about a specific player and team. The method of searching for answers on the carefully screened websites is a great tool to learn research skills. Each week the topics are reviewed, and students write about their favorite baseball findings or experiences. Bennett suggests that students make a journal to record all that they are learning. She also includes a weekly list of internet sites for further study. As a matter of fact, the entire study is internet-linked throughout, for easy research, with great suggestions on each topic.

At the end, two quizzes are provided if you wish to use them, along with internet search tips, a suggested book list, and lots of fun family project ideas. The Baseball Unit Study is an all-around great way to encourage research, have fun, and really learn a lot about the game! I think it would make a perfect "extra" for any teaching method. Try it!
