The Simple Songs That Teach French CD and Activity Book provide an engaging, fun, and painless basic immersion program for beginning learners of French. The CD contains 21 traditional and original songs. My children immediately enjoyed the music and thought it was fun to hear some familiar tunes in a different language. They often request to listen to the CD. The Activity Book contains the text of all the songs with a few exercises to accompany each one. The exercises include such tasks as matching, mazes, and writing vocabulary. The book also contains the translations for each song. There are no other explanations provided, but I have not found it difficult to use the materials.

It truly is an immersion program wherein children can have fun while developing an "ear" for the French language. The program is best suited for children in kindergarten first, and second grades, but it can be enjoyed by people of all ages. My husband can attest to that. Our family has placed a great emphasis on language learning in our homeschool in the belief that the endeavor will develop their brains in a unique way and open the door to all kinds of learning opportunities and experiences later in life. The Simple Songs website has some information on this perspective. Currently, our children are working with formal Latin and Greek curricula. Simple Songs That Teach French is a great addition in that it provides exposure and learning in another language but requires minimal time and no preparation. The kids regard it as simple fun.

The CD and Activity Book set is available on the website for $24.95. There are small discounts available for family sets and multiple activity books; a separate activity book is recommended for each child. I have been using one book with my kindergarten and first grade children; we do the exercises together. A digital download is available at www.songsforteaching.com.
