Spotlight on Minnesota: The Minnesota State History Game

Spotlight on Minnesota is an educational game that helps adults and children learn about the state history of Minnesota. First, I must explain that I am a native Floridian . . . so why would I want a game about another state. Well, we have numerous family members that have moved to Minnesota, so I wanted to learn about the state they have grown to love. I even thought I could get them a copy for Christmas since we love to give games as gifts (educational is even better).

Now, on with the game. Spotlight on Minnesota has three levels and three styles of play. It is ideal for students in 3rd to 8th grade, but ages 8 to 80 can play. This game could be used in group settings, such as homeschool co-ops, since 2 to 15 players can be accommodated. The levels of play are green (beginning), red (intermediate), and blue (advanced). Then, the different styles are designed to help those first learning about Minnesota (my immediate family), skilled learners so they can test their knowledge, and more competitive players who need a challenge.

The directions are very simple, so you are able to spend your time actually playing the game rather than learning how to play. I was excited when places we visited on our trip came back to me during play.

Now, if Spotlight Games would just create 49 more games, we could all enjoy learning about and testing the knowledge of our favorite state. Personally, I think Spotlight on Florida should be next!
