State Mania: A Matching Game of States and Capitals

For Ages 8 and Up
Cherry Tree Learning

PO Box 576
Round Hill, Virginia 20141

Learning the states and capitals is a must for children and Cherry Tree Learning has come up with a creative and fun way to do it with their State Mania card game! With this game, you'll receive two decks of cards: a state deck with 51 cards (50 states and 1 for the entire U.S.) and a capital deck with 51 cards. These include directions for games that can be played with any number of players, ages 8 and up. Matching cards have identical pictures of the states, but names match the state or capital. The cards also include each state motto.

Three games are suggested, but you can also make up games of your own. Capital Memories is for 1 or more players and is just like the familiar childhood "memory" game where you want to match the cards. You'll be amazed at how quickly this helps you learn and remember your states and capitals! Capital Fun is for 2 to 4 players if using 25 state-capital pairs or may be for up to 5-10 players if using the whole deck. I would say that this game compares to "Go Fish." It was our favorite version. You may also use these cards as flashcards if you desire. State Mania is a versatile card game that my seven year old son enjoyed immensely. Priced at just under $10.00, I would definitely recommend it as an entertaining way to learn your states and capitals!

State Mania is a fun card deck game recommended for ages 8 and up, but could really be played with children even younger! This game includes 2 decks of cards, each containing 51 cards. One deck is of the states (and one extra for the country) and the other deck contains all the capitals (again, one extra for Washington DC).

The State cards show the name of the state, an outline of the state, along with the state motto and are colored blue. The Capitals cards are colored red, and show the same information.

You can play "Capital Memories" (similar to a 'concentration' style game) or "Capital Fun" which is similar to a "Go Fish" style card game, use as flashcards or make your own games!! Learning through game playing is always a big hit in our house and State Mania is a fun card game to "cement" those states and their capitals in the minds of our children, and an engaging way to do it!!
