Retro News is a news magazine show on DVD hosted by kids for kids aged 9 to 12. The segments cover news and highlights from the 1930s to the 1950s. There are six DVDs, each containing two episodes.

Volume One features "News of 1941" and "News of 1945," with actual clips of the times. Volume Two features "History of Aviation" and "News of 1934." Volume Three features "July" and "Women in the News," which highlights Queen Elizabeth, Eleanor Roosevelt, Amelia Earhart and other accomplished women of the 1940s. Volume Four features "News of 1932" and "Faster, Higher, Farther," which is kind of like a mini-Guiness record account of the 30s and 40s. Volume Five features "August" and "Milestones," which is about human accomplishments of the time. Volume Six features "Fantastic Firsts" and "News of 1948."

These DVDs cover a lot of ground in the 1930-1950 time period: sports, interesting news, biographies, inventions, historical events, cultural events, and more, making these perfect as a supplement to any modern history study.

I would definitely follow the age recommendation and use these with students aged 9-12. I tried them with my 6-year-old daughter, and they didn't grab her attention. But I can see how they would be beneficial for older students.

The Retro News DVDs help transport you into the past to experience the news of the times. I recommend this product for anyone wishing to add a video component to their modern history studies for students aged 9-12.
