Songs of Scripture CD

Romans 6-8 in Song
http://www.songsofscripture.com/

Produced by several homeschool students and homeschool graduates, this CD is a simple but unique idea. The back cover promises to fulfill a two-fold purpose: first, "to provide an edifying atmosphere of melody and grace in the home through the Word of God set to music," and second, "to provide an encouraging memory tool for those desiring to commit larger portions of Scripture to memory." I agree that it accomplishes these goals in a most pleasing manner.

Contained on the CD are 11 songs taken from the King James Version of the book of Romans, chapters 6, 7 and 8. While the melodies are original, the lyrics are taken word for word from Scripture, providing an excellent opportunity to commit these passages to memory painlessly. Playing time is just over 45 minutes, but the composition of each of the 11 songs is unique enough to allow for repeated playing without the music becoming irritating, thereby allowing for many hours of listening enjoyment.

The accompaniment is a classical guitar. The music it provides is simple, relaxing, and uplifting. The melody is sung by a single female voice and comes across clearly and soothingly. While this music would be appropriate for dedicated listening, I can also see it being used as background music while entertaining or accomplishing household tasks.

Currently being offered via the Songs of Scripture website (www.songsofscripture.com) for $10, this is a professional quality CD being sold at a bargain price. My understanding is that there several more Scripture passages currently being worked on, and my family is looking forward to hearing more from these creative homeschoolers in the future.
