I had never used KONOS in our homeschool, although I have always heard raves about all of their products. So when the chance to review this came across my desk, I jumped at it-and I am so glad I did!

We enjoy using unit studies in our homeschool. KONOS: Russia in a Bag has been easy to use and fun to implement! Russia in a Bag includes a beautiful, colorful, hardcover DK Book on Russia that is over 50 pages! The softcover book The Land of Endurance contains almost 200 pages of lessons on topics including Geography and Vikings; Czars; Mongolians and the Orthodox Church; Peter the Great to Marx; Czar's End; Revolution and Communism; Tundra; Taiga and Mining; Ballet and The Nutcracker; Cold War and Arms Race; Space Race and Olympics; and Gorbachev and Glasnost.

The study on ballet was a huge hit with both daughters! "The History of the Ballet in Russia" was interesting and the PE/Creative Expression was fun. Although we think the whole study is wonderful, the unit on "The Ballet and Nutcracker" was a FAVORITE!

This 9-week study could be expanded even further with the extensive ideas, recipe collection, crafts, and studies that you could delve into!

KONOS: Russia in a Bag comes with some wonderful hands-on crafts! The Pysanky egg kit was very interesting. "Pysanky" means "to write," and here it is done on Ukrainian Easter eggs. This project came complete with dyes, beeswax, a kistky, and full instructions. This was a fun project! A kit to make cross-stitched bookmarks, complete with everything needed down to the embroidery needles, is also included, along with a map of Russia kit with a nice black-line map. The "hit" of the crafts in this study had to be the nesting dolls! Nice quality paintbrushes, the paint, and the wooden nesting dolls were provided. This project was fascinating to the girls. (One daughter collects these, so this was a special project!)

This study covers all subjects and then some. A "typical" week will cover social studies, geography, math, critical thinking, Bible and character, drama and arts, crafts, language arts, and MORE.

If your homeschool uses strictly textbooks, this might not be for you. However, we will be using more KONOS studies in the future. We loved it. Definite recommendation!
