The Old Farmer's Almanac for Kids Review by Lisa Barthuly & Family

Yankee Publishing
http://www.almanac4kids.com/

The Old Farmer's Almanac has a new twist, a version just for children! This paperback is almost 200 pages of interesting and odd facts, activities and stories. Just some of the subjects covered in this kid's version of the oldest published periodical in North America, The Old Farmer's Almanac, are Weather, Sports, Pets, History, Gardening, Farming, Astronomy, Nature, People and a whole lot more!

The Old Farmer's Almanac for Kids is a brand new, full color, fun and interesting read! This book starts out with the history on the original The Old Farmer's Almanac and the story behind Robert Bailey Thomas' idea for the book (a homeschooler, of course!) and how it progressed. This version for children is chock full of neat topics and facts. Did you know that on December 20th, 1836 the temperatures in central Illinois dropped from 40 degrees to 0 degrees Fahrenheit in a sudden cold snap that was said to freeze chickens in their tracks? Did you know, the world record for the coldest temperature reached was in Vostok, a Russian scientific station in eastern Antarctica in JULY of 1983; the thermometer reached negative129 degrees! Now that is cold!

The Old Farmer's Almanac for Kids has information on our health, plants, nutrition, lightning, composting, pigs, chickens, the northern lights, space, planets, dogs, stars, teeth, sports, manners, puzzles, tongue twisters, earthquake Richter scale, metric conversion, sports hall of fame, history, gardening, and the list does go on!

The folks at The Old Farmer's Almanac have even created a website, www.almanas4kids.com, where kids can find more of The Old Farmer's Almanac for Kids with activities and articles that expand on the topics in the book. They can also send e-cards to their family and friends, cast a vote in weekly polls, and check out (via a webcam) the weather and what's happening outside the home of The Old Farmer's Almanac for Kids in Dublin, New Hampshire.

Lots of fun educational entertainment for kids of all ages!
