Finding God in the Day-to-Day

It’s a common thing for many homeschooling parents to get busy with schedules, tasks, and life on the whole. There is a lot of room for flexibility, and that makes it easy for our schedules to fill up quite quickly without even realizing it. Though it is usually filled with many good things, our time with God tends to get pushed off to the side unwillingly.

One thing that can be agreed upon is that we do need God to help us get through each day. We may not realize it on the day-to-day routines, but when we look back, we can see that God brought us through the craziness each time. We don’t have to wait until we make it through to see God’s hand at work. If we are intentional, we can include Him in our day and be strengthened with the reminder that He’s walking with us, every step of the way.

Keep the Conversation Going

If you consider God to be a friend, you might be able to find that He’s very easy to talk to. Just as you would walk around with a cell phone with earbuds while you hustle and bustle and get in those catch-up moments with your friends, you can do the same with God. Chat with Him while you’re working, and bonus - you don’t need to walk around with a phone. When you keep the conversation going, you stay closer to him. You walk with Him and He walks with you. Since He promises to carry the load for us, you’ll find it just a bit easier to carry on with that list of things to do with His help.

Worship Throughout the Day

If you have worship music playing in the background when you can, it’s an opportunity for God to point out a song to you that you can focus on throughout the day. The song will seem to stand out, and you can listen to the words to see what God might be saying to you. It could be something on your heart that you need to pray for, or you just needed some encouragement reminding you that He’s there with you.

Read Mini Devotionals

You can sign up for daily devotionals from a variety of websites online. Some are very short, even just a verse for the day, that only takes seconds to read to give your mind and heart something to chew on that day.

Try Homeschool Moms Teach the Psalms or download the YouVersion Bible app and search for the plan. It’s great for the whole family!

Listen to an Encouraging Word

You can find podcasts or YouTube videos of sermons that you can have on in the background. These will provide you with some encouraging words to keep your head focused on God.

Open the Eyes of Our Hearts

Ask God each day to open the eyes of your heart to see Him moving throughout your day. Ask Him to help you see Him around you. It could be a song you hear or in something you read or a moment with your child where you can hear His voice speaking to you. He moves all around us through all of His creation. You can find Him in the sunshine coming in through the window or the rain falling on your roof. Just to think of His presence all around you will bring you nearer to Him.

In the Stillness

Having a moment set aside to recharge is something we do for our children. Whether it’s a nap or a time for quiet activities, all children need that moment to recharge. The same goes for us. If it’s during that same time when your children are quiet or before the day starts or after it’s ended, you need to have a moment to sit and allow God to recharge you.

You want to make finding God a habit. It takes some intentionality and some work to get it scheduled into your daily schedule, but soon it will become second nature and you won’t have to think about it. You’ll find that even in the busyness, you’ll feel His presence, hear His voice and see Him moving in the things and people around you. So be encouraged to seek Him out because Jesus promised:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;

and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Matthew 6:33

Rest assured that you’ll find your load a little lighter knowing God is by your side.
