A Day in the Life of our Trenholm Homeschool Family

The alarm clock goes off at 7 a.m., and I jump out of bed and go out to the gym. This is also my alone time with the Lord before I need to get my family up to start the day. As I run on the treadmill, I read my scripture and marvel in the presence of my glorious Father.

I am now in the house, and the day will soon begin. I wake my daughter up and get her breakfast on the table. In the shower, I pray to the Lord and sing His praise. I still need this time alone with Him before I tackle the tasks of the day.

It is now 8:30 a.m., and classes are just about to start for the day. But first my daughter and I must pray for the Lord to fill us with peace and to teach us what He wants us to learn that day. We must do this so that we have a nice day of learning. Putting Jesus at the center will always turn out good.

In our house, I like to try to be interactive with my 12-year-old throughout the curriculum of the day. We may take turns reading the lessons, or I may just need to watch a video with her. Sometimes I have the timer going for her keyboarding lessons, but even the smallest things seem to make our relationship grow closer. We are the class, and that alone time makes our bond as a mother and daughter even stronger. She is getting all her habits from me now so I need to make sure I am raising up a godly young lady. Modesty needs to be a part of our everyday life, or we are not representing our body as the temple of the Holy Spirit.

In our house, the majority of our curriculum is provided by schoolhouseteachers.com . I find the selection is amazing, lots of different teaching styles to choose from. I like that you can also find any course for your grade level by the press of a button. What my daughter finds exciting is that after each course is completed we can print her off a certificate that she happily hangs on the wall of the classroom. There are so many resources included with this as well, even access to RightNow Media which is included in a membership for FREE. The amount of videos and variety that they provide is awesome. My daughter loves when I tell her we can watch a movie. I even allow her to pick it as I know they are safe.

Another thing that I really like about schoolhouseteachers.com is the customer support that they provide. There is a pop-up on the bottom of the page, and they are quick to reply when you ask them a question. If they do not have the answer, they will definitely get it for you.

A bonus is the $5 for the first month trial that they provide. What better way to check out if it works for you then that? You feel at ease, and it is very easy to cancel if you decide that it is not for you after that trial. Check it out for yourself and see what you think.

Our school day is usually over by 1 p.m. at the latest, depending if we have any field trips planned with fellow homeschoolers that day or not. We have a snack around 10 a.m. and lunch as soon as school is out. We have decided that this year since she is in grade 7 she is going to help prepare the meals and desserts. This is her home economics class. That is the joy of homeschooling; the learning does not stop when classes are over. It is a 24-hour a day process, and the learning is endless.
