Wordly Wise has been a staple in our house for my bigger kids for many years using earlier editions. I was excited to check out the Wordly Wise 3000 Book 3 set Fourth Edition with my 3rd grader. This 2 book set includes the Student Workbook and a Teacher's Resource Book.

The Wordly Wise 3000 Teacher's Resource Book is spiral bound and includes teaching techniques, secondary passages, lesson review exercises, reproducible tests, and answer keys. I really like the pacing guide that is also included to help fit Wordly Wise into any schedule. There are options for 30-40 minutes once a week 15 minutes 3 times a week, or 10 minutes 5 times a week. Whichever path you choose, there is a plan on how to schedule the week.

The Wordly Wise Student Book has 15 lessons with reviews after every 2-3 lessons. Each week's lesson starts with a new word list. For our family, we read the words and talked about what the words meant, given the definitions listed. Sample sentences are also included. There is 5 days worth of assignments that take about 5-10 minutes each to do every week. They include matching definitions, word context, reading a passage, and answering questions, and other activities. It's fairly simple and self explanatory, requiring minimal teacher assistance. At the end of the week, the teacher can test the students using the tests included in the Teacher's Resource Book.

As I mentioned earlier, we have used previous versions of Wordly Wise with my other children. I feel the new Fourth Edition books are a little more user friendly and I really like the options included in the Teacher's Resource Book. The only thing I would change to this set would be to have both books spiral bound for easier usage. This version seems very user friendly and I haven't received complaints from my student. I am very pleased to have been able to try out Wordly Wise 3000 Book 3 with my 3rd grader and we plan to continue using it throughout this year.
