Lysis Goes to the Play Review by Anne WeilandBy Caroline Dale Snedeker
Illustrated by Elizabeth Palmer Clark
American Home-School Publishing
Lysis Goes to the Play is the story of an Athenian boy who steals out to enjoy the fashionable entertainment of the day; that is, a play by the popular Euripides. The story would be a fine read-aloud for any grammar age child and could be read independently by a reader from about 3rd grade level and up. Woven into a captivating tale are many of the major Golden Age people and places including Sophocles, Pericles, Herodotus, the Greek gods, the Acropolis, and the Agora. This book would make a colorful supplement for any study of ancient Greece.
