Rescue in the Mayan Jungle by Karla Warkentin is part of the Time-Stone Travelers Series. Josh finds a mysterious stone that transports him and his siblings deep into the Mayan jungle. The children stand for God against a pagan priest to free a young girl being held against her will. (Warning, there is some violence.)
Abigail's Secret Journal and Rachel's Secret Journal, by Bonnie Bruno are part of the Secret Journals of Bible Times Kids series. Abigail's Secret Journal is the story of a young girl's journey from doubt to faith as she participates in Israel's exodus from Egypt and meets God at Mt. Sinai. Rachel's Secret Journal takes place during the reign of King Solomon. Rachel struggles with her relationship with her cousin from the big city of Jericho. Rachel must deal with peer pressure as God grows her faith.
All three books are gems! I believe readers will be inspired to trust in God and realize that other children have the same struggles as they do. Because the books give a snapshot of what life was like, they are a wonderful addition to your homeschool curriculum when you study these time periods.
My nine year-old daughter gave them two thumbs up!
