Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! (DVD) Review by Whitney Dunahee

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! is a DVD in the Scholastic Storybook Treasures series. With a running time of 49 minutes (plus extras), it features three stories on one DVD. All three stories are based on classic children's books by Mo Willems. In addition to being the author and illustrator of the books, Mr. Willems does voice work for each story on the DVD. The stories are Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale, and Leonardo the Terrible Monster. The DVD is recommended for children ages 2-8, and all three stories are very appropriate for that age range.

There is a read-along feature, where the words are printed on the screen for young readers to follow. To make it easier to follow, each word changes color as it is spoken. The extras include a "you-yell" version of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! where the audience is encouraged to yell out "No!" when the pigeon asks if he can drive the bus. My children very much enjoyed this interactive part of the DVD. There is also a Spanish version of Knuffle Bunny. The final extra is Mo Willems speaking to school children about how the Pigeon book was created. He also shows the children how to draw the pigeon. This was my favorite part of the disc.

The stories are cute, wholesome, and fun. Our family is glad to add  Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!  to our DVD library. It is a nice combination of education and entertainment.
