Good Night Moon and Other Great Bedtime Stories is a children's sign-language DVD available from Scholastic Storybook Treasures. The DVD features three classic children's stories with voice, sign language, and read-along captions. The three stories are Good Night Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, A Creature Was Stirring: One Boy's Night Before Christmas by Carter Goodrich, and Gladys Goes Out to Lunch by Derek Anderson. Running time for the three stories is approximately 36 minutes. In addition, there are extra features: a sign-language vocabulary, alphabet finger-spelling, and interactive comprehension quizzes.

My children love this DVD. They enjoy the stories and especially like learning "hand talk." I appreciate the soothing nature of the stories. Illustrations from the books are the backdrop for the person signing, which gives the DVD a calming feel that is very appropriate for bedtime. The music is also soothing and relaxing. I also like that my readers are able to read along on the screen. The sign language and read-along captions elevate this DVD from being mere entertainment to being much more educational and interactive. My one criticism is that it seems a bit strange to have a Christmas story sandwiched between two non-seasonal stories. Families that prefer to avoid stories with a Santa theme will want to be aware that the second story does have a strong Santa theme, as it is a play on the classic 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Good Night Moon and Other Great Bedtime Stories is a DVD my children ask to watch again and again, and I am happy to allow them to do so.
