My kids and I love the "Duck" books by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Betsy Lewin! We were so excited to learn that Scholastic Storybook Treasures has adapted three of the Duck books and two of the "Diary" books as short illustrated movies, and put all five on one wonderful DVD, Giggle, Giggle, Quack . . . and more stories by Doreen Cronin ($14.95). Giggle, Giggle, Quack introduces Duck as a mischievous little fellow who wreaks havoc--but only a little--on the farm while Farmer Brown is away on vacation. Dooby Dooby Moo has the animals competing in a talent show for the grand prize of a trampoline. Duck for President--well, you can probably guess this one! Duck decides that farming is hard work and that he needs to run for office. He eventually becomes president, which turns out to be hard work too. Randy Travis wonderfully narrates all three of these stories.

We enjoyed being introduced to another great Doreen Cronin series (illustrated by Harry Bliss; narrated by Alexandra Gould and Abigail Breslin) in the last two illustrated stories, Diary of a Worm and Diary of a Fly. These two delightful stories portray life as a young worm or a young fly, which is not an easy life! Woven in are tidbits of information about worms and flies, together with clever insights into the mind of these minute creatures.

Each story is about 10 minutes long, and they can be watched individually or all together. The stories and illustrations are true to the books, wholesome, and charming! We loved the read-along feature that highlights each word as it is read so that kids can follow along. Giggle, Giggle, Quack and Dooby Dooby Moo can also be viewed in Spanish. There are a few special features (including an interview with illustrator Harry Bliss) and a couple of discussion questions for each story. This quickly became one of my kids' favorite DVDs. My family would highly recommend this DVD--or any of these books--to readers young and not so young.
