Missionary Stories from Around the World is a wonderful book geared toward the 8 to 12-year-old set, though adults and youngsters alike are bound to enjoy each story. Readers will be introduced to some of the most well known missionaries, including Gladys Aylward, Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, Amy Carmichael, and many more.
The book is divided geographically so that you can read all the stories about the Americas, Asia, Africa, India, or Europe all in one section. One illustration per story gives the reader something to spark their imagination.
As readers go on adventures around the world, they are able to see what it was like to be a missionary. Read about Hudson Taylor, who goes into villages and gives medical treatment, books, and sermons to the Chinese people as well as the tragedies that he faced during his years as a missionary. The story of Julio Martinez, who was martyred, is a heartbreaking one. There are 27 stories that youngsters will enjoy reading, and who knows, it may encourage some readers to think about becoming a missionary someday!
Questions and answers are included at the end of the book to help spark conversation and to check retention of information. We enjoyed reading a couple stories per day from this book along with our devotion.
