This is a 44-page spiral bound book that is chock full of wonderful information. This contains an outline for teaching your kindergarten-age child. It is just what I have been looking for--a guideline/structure for teaching the basics to the beginning student.

Ms. Kargbo breaks down the Kindergarten plan into six sections:

1) Basic Knowledge
2) Basic Math Skills
3) Basic Phonics Skills
4) Early Writing Skills
5) General Skills
6) General Knowledge

Each section explains the goal of the subject, ways to achieve the goal, and what is needed to achieve the goal. The author also gives sample daily and weekly schedules. She provides many ways of teaching the material, such as games and activities. For instance, in the Phonics Skills section, she recommends several different ways of teaching the basic letters and sounds, including kinesthetic activities that give the child a hands-on learning experience.

The Appendix offers a sample Daily Lesson Planning Worksheet, a Blank Calendar Template, Tips for Learning the Days in each Month, a list of helpful resources and books, and a list of useful websites.

This book is just what the doctor ordered! I have been searching for a "game plan" for teaching the basics to my youngest granddaughter. I taught this all before to her older sister, but that was several years ago and I was looking for a fresh approach. I am delighted with this book and have already bookmarked some of the suggested websites and put several of the recommended books on my Amazon wish list. Although I know a lot of games and tricks already, Ms. Kargbo taught this "old dog" a new trick for teaching how many days are in each month of the year! I will be recommending this resource to all my friends in the homeschool world that are looking for encouragement and help in teaching their first kindergarten year.
