What a fun picture book! The little prince is having trouble going to sleep, and it seems like everyone in the kingdom is called on for one sleep cure or another. No one's ideas work, no matter how fanciful, until a wise old woman comes to the rescue with her very simple cure--a bedtime story!

Written in rhyming text for young children, the story is full of wonderful, rich vocabulary that will stretch the minds of preschoolers through second graders. The whimsical illustrations, done in bold and bright collage and acrylics, will draw children in too. At least they drew me in!

Included in the back of the book is a 13-minute reading of the book on a CD, with a bonus "page turning" track for beginning readers. My children love books on CD, and this was no exception.

For those of you who might be interested, one of the people who attempts to cure the sleepless boy is a magician. His hypnotic spells don't work on the little boy, but they do bring birds, roses, rabbits, and a horse into the castle.

My children chuckled through this whole story. Even my 11-year-old, who has long moved on from simple picture books, enjoyed it. We don't make room on our shelves for just any books, but we'll be keeping this one in our library for some time to come!
