LIFEPACS: Grades K-12 Review by Jenefer Igarashi

http://www.AOP.com

Alpha Omega Publications has a strong, and well deserved, presence in the homeschool community. They have been around for twenty-five years! Many of us are familiar with their LIFEPACS curriculum.

I first used the LIFEPACS system with one of my six children for the purpose of doing a company curriculum review. The first thought that popped into my head when my LIFEPACS came was "yummy." Weird? Perhaps, but they reminded me of large boxes of Girl Scout cookies. A distinct advantage to the LIFEPACS program is easy storage. Each subject comes in color-coded boxes and includes an easy-to-handle, spiral bound Teacher's Guide and a series of ten worktexts called units. Another noteworthy aspect is the Alpha Omega customer service; I particularly appreciate the online instant messaging help.

The curriculum suited our needs superbly. It was challenging enough and was organized in a way that made it easy for us to set the year up at a certain pace that worked for us. I liked the versatility of the program. LIFEPACS are a great choice for the student who is self-directed, yet it works just as well for the one who needs more teacher input. Teacher Guides include a Curriculum Overview, Management and Structure [directions on how to use the program], Teacher Notes, Alternate Tests with Keys [wonderful for practice and reinforcement], and Self Tests and Keys. After reviewing the full third-grade LIFEPACS program, I chose the Alpha Omega LIFEPACS system for two of my elementary children.
