Scat Like That CD Review by Ruth Hoskins

Artist: Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer

This CD, which contains 14 songs, is an introduction to various genres of music. With song titles like "50 states" and "AEIO and U", I thought that this might be a good homeschool CD for educational purposes. After listening to the CD with my kids I now know that, although the kids will pick up some educational facts, the focus of the CD is to introduce the children to various types of music.

My kids (ages 7 and 9) enjoy the funny fun songs. They like to try and repeat the scats and make remarks about what they like and don't like about the songs. Overall they find it entertaining. I find the CD hard to listen to. I enjoy the various types of music showcased by Fink and Marxer, and am interested in exploring "adult" music of a few of the genres. In Scat Like That, the lyrics are pretty silly and meant to be funny and fun. This is fun for kids.
