The Familyman

Todd Wilson, Familyman Ministries

These are my thoughts on homeschooling year-round: I don’t like it.

It’s not that I have any stats regarding the negative impact on kids or some documented evidence about children whose lives have been ruined by doing school year-round, I just don’t like it.

I have too many great memories of goofing off all summer (including all the chores my dad gave me). To me, summer vacation seems like an inalienable right of “kiddom.”

I know some folks who live in really hot climates where it’s too hot to play outside in the summer do it year-round, and I suppose that makes sense . . . I guess . . .

But the thing is, you need a break, Mom, and I believe your children do too. They need to experience you as just their mother, not their teacher and you need to experience them as just your children, not your students.

All that to say, do what you need to do. God made you smart enough to figure out what’s best for your family (but make sure you listen to your husband’s advice).

If you think you need to homeschool year-round then do it

. . . I just don’t like it.

Be real,

Todd
