Writing Focus is a CD writing program for nine to 11 year olds available from Granada Learning. This is truly unique! If you have a student who requires more than an assignment to write about what they did on summer vacation, then check out this CD! The student chooses from these styles: roving reporter, pictures and words, free writing, biography, diary, for and against, play script, shape poems, and comic strip. At each choice, the student is given some brief exemplar material, like a commentary or an excerpt from a piece of literature. The student studies the exemplar and then does her own presentation of the topic. The workspace looks like a board where the student may choose colors, fonts paragraph spacing, etc.
Teacher resources on the CD spell out a plan for two year's worth of writing projects. Your student can use this CD independently and polish their writing craft while studying top notch styles and being encouraged to develop their own style.
